0riginally built by the Eastern & Midland Railway and opened in 1887, the 5'/4 mile long North Norfolk Railway runs through some of the most attractive countryside to be found in this corner of East Anglia. Stretching between the coastal town of Sheringham and the outskirts of Holt, the line features some of the fiercest gradients to be found on the former Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway system, of which it once formed a part. .
This programme maps out the history of the line, which was promoted from the very start as a tourist line, through to its existance today as a long established heritage railway. A variety of motive power can be seen hauling the railway's rolling stock up gradients as steep as 1 in 80.
Former LNER locomotives include the sole surviving B12 No. 8572, J27 No. 65894, N2 No. 69523 and N7 No. 7999 which can be seen in action alongside a selection of home based industrial engines. A good selection of heritage diesel locomotives are also shown, including class 37 No. D6732, class 27 No. D5386 and class 25 No. D5207.
