Preserving the Midland Legend

Preserved Locomotives of the LNER

The Midland Railway Project was originally initiated by Derby City Council to preserve the memory of The Midland Railway Company, its predecessors and its successors. Following the selection of part of the former Ambergate to Pye Bridge line as an ideal location for the project, The Midland Railway Trust and its members set to, and created The Midland Railway Centre. Today a museum, locomotive workshops, a narrow gauge line and much more go together to form The Midland Railway Centre, along with its three and a half mile running line. Resident steam and diesel locomotives are captured performing on the standard gauge line whilst a simplex loco and goods wagons are seen on The Golden Valley Narrow Gauge Line. Visitors in the form of GWR Saddle Tank No. 813 and Furness Railway No. 20 also appear at the head of one of the most impressive vintage trains in preservation. There’s also mainline action featuring Midland Railway Centre residents 6233 Duchess of Sutherland and 46203 Princess Margaret Rose.
