The South Devon Railway Past & Present

South Devon Railway Past & Present

The South Devon Railway extends along a 7 mile section of the former Great Western Railway branch line to Ashburton.
Following close by the course of the River Dart the preserved railway runs from Totnes Littlehempston station, where a main line conection is made with the national network and on to Buckfastleigh.
Archive cine footage of the line is used to examine progress from its early preservation days, as the Dart Valley Railway, through to the present day, where a look is taken behind the scenes to uncover what is involved in the day to day running of the railway.
The South Devon Railway has come a long way over the past four decades and we meet the key individuals who have been involved in steering it towards its position as the successful and fully operational preserved railway that can be seen today.
